Workshops are typically 2½ hours long. Each workshop is designed to be relevant and easily comprehensible to activists and others with no previous economics background and with no formal educational experience.

There are three workshop themes, each focusing on a different issue area:

• The Real Cost of the War on Drugs
• The Real Cost of Prisons on Women and Their Children
• The Real Cost of Financing and Siting of Prisons
